The Washington Post’s video arm PostTV last week spotlighted the growing controversy around the offensive name of Washington, D.C.’s NFL team.

On BackgroundThe detailed 14-minute segment featured Washington Post Sports Columnist Mike Wise and Oneida Indian Nation representative and leader of the grassroots Change the Mascot campaign Ray Halbritter.

Both guests discussed the mounting debate surrounding Washington’s team name and the growing Change the Mascot campaign to end the team’s use of a racial slur. Halbritter pointed to the dangerous effects that the offensive epithet has on Native Americans’ self-perceptions and said he believes the important issue has now reached a tipping point.
