taj mahal blogThe Taj Mahal Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad announced that tourists can now access Wi-Fi service for free for the first 30 minutes of their visit in the complex. The marble mausoleum attracts around 3 million tourists per year, flocking to observe the remarkable gardens, semiprecious gemstone lined walls, and exquisitely detailed carvings all that make up what is widely recognized as “the jewel of Muslim art in India”. Yet, despite the awe-inspiring beauty that lies therein, the people want Wi-Fi.

While some people may lament and argue for the fall of the “good ole days” when people could live without their appendage that is their mobile device, it is 2015 and Wi-Fi is a must-have at all times. News travels faster than ever and with the wake of news-breaking tweets and the “everyone is a journalist” era, Wi-Fi connection cannot wait.

The truth is, while you’re on vacation or even visiting a wonder of the world, you can never afford to escape reality. This is especially true if you have a prominent name or run a business. The higher you fly, the further and quicker you can fall. In our gossip-obsessed society, even the most respectable businesses are not immune to the rumor-mill. By the time you enter the large complex, tour the grounds and find the exit, your reputation could be threatened by a hard-hitting, fast-traveling rumor.

Connectivity and awareness is essential to survive these days. Crisis can hit when you’re least expecting. It is best to always be prepared and to stay one step ahead. The best way to do that is to be proactive and avoid any potential crises. It’s important to monitor your environment and keep up with any news that may concern your practice. Frankly, crises have destroyed people’s livelihoods and taken down seemingly untouchable companies in the blink of an eye. For those who have crossed their fingers and hoped for the best, however, a crisis does not need to be the disaster it could be.

There are ways to negate bad press and re-claim your hard-earned reputation. It’s important to be thoughtful in your online interactions and to stay connected to the world around you. Remember that if you choose to disconnect, everyone and everything else keeps on moving.

So, if your next vacation lands you in India to visit the great Taj Mahal, make sure to find the right network and hit “connect”.
